Different Perspectives On The Web

Different Perspectives On The Web

One of the important aspects of the web is that it has the potential to expose its users to multiple perspectives and to ideas they might not otherwise encounter. Based on the Ted Talk, there are online filter bubbles. This means that you can search for the same thing online as some else, but still receive different search results. These search results cater to your previous search history as way to provide you with information that you may deem relevant instead of providing you with information that you have no care for. The article "Mind Control & The Internet" shows another way that the internet helps you communicate with others. For those who have illnesses that prevent them from speaking or those who lack communication skills, people can now communicate with others through technology by simply just thinking.

In-brain computers can benefit people who have Alzheimer's or are deaf. Michael Chorost, someone who was deaf before receiving a cochlear implant believes that "we will all be connected directly to the Internet via a neural implant, so that the Internet 'would become seamlessly part of us, as natural and simple to use as our own hands.'" In contrast, based off the article "Clive Thompson On High-Bandwith Buddies", the fact that social media gives you information on what it believes will interest you and what you will find most useful, it blocks people out from discovering diverse opinions. Because of this, it causes society to become more close minded and it will prevent society from ethically evolving as a whole.
